HVI Recap and Quick Week Review

Greetings everyone!

After a long weekend and day yesterday, and loading trailers and cleaning up today, I wanted to send a quick note regarding tomorrow and part of this week. I will be sending the FULL States Weekly Updates/Info tomorrow, I just won’t have that ready to go out today.  Please look for that on email tomorrow, and we will hand out hard copies at Oakland Yard as well.

A few updates for now (please read 🙂

1.  THANK YOU to everyone who helped Friday, yesterday, and all week long to make sure HVI was a huge success!  I want to make a special shout out to Tracy Jerome who helped coordinate all the volunteers and chairs for yesterday as well!  Thank you Tracy.  We had a great show, and the guest bands were extremely complimentary of our parents and show yet again!  We cannot do this without you all, and I am extremely thankful to each of you for helping make it all go so smooth!  The students had a great run as well, and they are in 8th place right now heading into states!  As I’ve said all along, we can’t control what other bands do, and shouldn’t worry about that.  We should focus on making the last 2 weeks the best we can, and close out this historic year with our best performances yet!

2.  This week’s practice schedule leading into States:   11/1 – Monday – we are at Oakland Yard tomorrow from 4:30 – 8 pm.   Parents that are new (never been before), we are paying about $1000 a rehearsal to be there.  Please help me make sure your student is there on time at 4:30, ready to help unload all the trailers, and to get started right away.  If parents can help too, both with unload and load, we will take it!!!   Oakland Yard is in Waterford on M-59. Address: 5328 Highland Rd, Waterford Twp, MI 48327

Parents, please drop off at the main dome (first dome when you pull in – drop off to the left of the entry drive around to the main dome entrance. We HAVE TO BE OUT OF THE BUILDING AT 8 pm, so please be back ready to pick up at 8.  Students – all battery, wind, and guard students were instructed to bring their own equipment.   11/3 – Wednesday – at Lakeland from 5:30 – 9 (normal times).  11/5 – Friday – We are back at Oakland Yard from 8 am – 12 noon. ALL schools will be notified of absence (including Middle Schools).  Students will be excused as a school activity.  Students are responsible for any missed work, and therefore need to check in with teachers ahead of Friday.

We will have 2 buses for students who do not drive, but I am assuming most students will want to drive that are able to do so.  If your student needs to take the bus, here are the details:

RIDING THE BUSES:

a.  REPORT TO LHS BAND ROOM between 7 – 7:25 am on Friday
b.  Ride the bus to/from Oakland Yard.  Bus will depart from LHS at 7:30 am, and we will return around 1:15 pm.  Make arrangements to pick your student up at LHS at 1:45 pm.
c.  Bring money for lunch.  There is a Taco Bell and a Wendy’s that students can eat at on Friday after we rehearse, and then they need to be ready to load the buses at 12:45 pm to return and help unload at LHS.

NOT RIDING THE BUSES:
a.  Complete the Oakland Yard Permission to Drive/Ride with a Student Form and turn in by Wednesday, 11/3 at 9 pm to the red box.  THERE IS  A FORM FOR ANYONE WHO IS DRIVING, and A FORM FOR ANYONE WHO IS RIDING WITH ANOTHER STUDENT DRIVER…complete the appropriate form 🙂

b. Report to Oakland Yard at 7:45 am on Friday (you will need to transport your equipment/instrument again unless you are in the front ensemble)
c.  After we finish rehearsal, you are excused to eat lunch and return to LHS/depart for the day.

d.  DO NOT transport (including at lunch after we rehearse), any students who do not have a permission slip to ride with you in your vehicle.  THIS IS THE POLICY.11/6 – Saturday – rehearsal at Lakeland at 10 am Schedule for the day will go out tomorrow.  Our tentative performance time at State Finals is  8:38 pm.  The spectator schedule is attached.  I will include full details for the day, including for truck/semi drivers, bus drivers, etc., in the packet tomorrow in the email/hard copies.   A Spectator schedule is linked below.
