Greetings HVMB!
I am beyond excited to share with you our Weekly Reminders for the First week of the season and our Sparta Invitational Information. I have assembled everything into one document (which is linked below) that I will be handing out to all the students in hard copy form at practice tomorrow (MONDAY, 9/13). Please take a moment to go over it all very carefully. With us moving back and forth between buildings this week for the LHS Football game (THE HVMB will be performing at halftime as well as the LHS Pep Band during the game) and then being right back at Milford for Saturday for our highly anticipated first competition of the year, I need you all to help your students make sure they are ready for everything we need to tackle this week.

Parents – I have a few favors to ask of you right now as well:
- Football Game Friday at LHS – we need help on Friday at the game at LHS with equipment getting on/off the field for halftime, as well as loading all of the equipment to go back over to MHS for the next morning. ALL winds/battery/guard – we need you to plan to take your equipment back and forth. We will be making 3 trips with the trailers just for the front ensemble 🙂
Any parents helping with equipment for Friday – please show up at the LHS Band Shed at 6:45 pm please 🙂

- Sparta Show Help – we need help with the Sparta Invitational. We could use a few more chaperones, and we desperately need help with equipment going on and off at the show. I know it is a long drive, but as I’ve been saying all season…we all have missed competing, and whether you are new or not, we are so excited for the HVMB debut performance!!! Help us make it spectacular! All the show info I have is attached in the packet.

- Discussion with your students about Saturdays and leaving campus for food/breaks – I am being told that even after multiple times that I have explained this to the kids, there may have been students who left campus Saturday at lunch. I have told them this is NOT ALLOWED. I want you to all be aware if a student leaves during practice at any point going forward, without my knowledge and approval, they will be removed from the band.
I had 3 kids leave campus many years ago without my permission, and they rolled their car in an accident racing to get back to practice. I should NOT have to go into any further explanation on why I do NOT allow kids to leave during practice. - Work and other absences – We had, at one point, 7 kids gone from Saturday alone. Some were pre-arranged well before this weekend, while some were told to me just days before, and of course, a couple that didn’t. Parents, we need your support with two things:
a. Your student should have told their work their full schedule for the fall already (they have it, as well as their entire concert band schedule for the year). If their work is understaffed, and their boss tries to force them to work because they don’t have workers, we need your support on this in telling them that your student already did their part in notifying them about work and will be at band. (Yes, I also have a daughter in high school who works too).
b. If your student is absent for any other reason (if prearranged you are all set), please email me and notify me as to why they are out please? As a reminder, homework is also not a reason to be absent from practice. This takes a big commitment. It does from me as well, and I don’t take it lightly. We cannot move forward, be successful, and have the season we want if people are gone from practices and we need to minimize this as much as possible.
